The Launch of VizThink!

July 21, 2007 – 8:00 am

Hi everybody and welcome to a visual revolution!  We are about to launch a global Visual Thinking community.  Visual thinking is a methodology, approach, and even a philosophy that uses pictures, graphics, images, and other forms of art to communicate or teach ideas, concepts, strategies, processes, relationships, systems, and a whole host of other things.  Visual thinkers are made up graphic designers, project managers, interface designers, editors, programmers, artists, professors, usability experts, information graphics designers, teachers, writers, consultants, game designers, managers, photographers, marketers, corporate communications, trainers, researchers, and many others.  They come from all industries, all corners of the globe, and all walks of life.

VizThink OverviewIn short, visual thinkers are just like you.  Our goal is to bring all of these people together for the first time in an on-going, sustainable community.  Practitioners and researchers, buyers and vendors, new media and traditional media, all working together to raise the awareness and usage of visualization in all forms of learning and communication.

To kick it all off, we’re launching a conference in January 2008 in San Francisco, California.  It will be unlike any conference you’ve ever attended.  We’re going to enlist you, the community, to help design the conference.  Who do you want to learn from?  What do you want to try?  Who do you want to meet?  Certainly, we’ve got a plan, but we want your input, and we’ll do everything we can to make this the best event you’ve ever been to.  We’re also planning events in Europe and Asia which will be announced in the coming months.

However, this isn’t just about events.  It’s about creating a sustainable community with regional and local events, global online events, and a host of online resources.  To get this going, we’re going to need your help.  What would you find valuable?  What do you want to get out of the community?

We’re looking forward to getting to know each of you!

  2. A very interesting effort. Companies need to learn how to use visual thinking in their communications, both inside and with customers. Vizthink can drive the movement that makes it happen.

  3. I am very supportive on an online community of visual thinkers. I’ve been blessed/cursed with being an out-of-the-box visual thinker all my life. Fortunately its usually more blessing than curse. I find visual thinking can offer a more balanced whole-brain approach to innovative problem-solving and allows you to slip easily between divergent artist and convergent scientist. This helps to spark new connections which create breakthrough solutions and intellectual capital.

Thus I appreciate the magnitude of the vision you have chosen. I’d love to become part of your networked community. For questions I may be reached through the LinkedIn network. Best of luck and I look forward to receiving more information about VizThink.
