Interactive Data Visualization & Analysis
August 24, 2007 – 12:32 pmAs we design the conference, we’re trying to bring in people from a variety of disciplines that apply visual thinking techniques. The networking and cross-pollination will provide tremendous insights and ideas for your work. So far, we’ve added experts in information graphics and corporate communications. Now, we’re very excited to add data visualization and analysis with our next facilitator, Stephen Few!
| Stephen Few has worked for 25 years as an information technology innovator, teacher, and consultant. Today, as Principal of the consultancy Perceptual Edge, he focuses on data visualization for analyzing and communicating quantitative business information. In addition to consulting and training services, he writes the monthly Visual Business Intelligence Newsletter, speaks frequently at conferences, and teaches in the MBA program at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of two books: Show Me the Numbers: Designing Tables and Graphs to Enlighten and Information Dashboard Design: The Effective Visual Communication of Data. You can learn more about Stephen’s work at www.perceptualedge.com. |
Stay tuned, there are many great facilitators to be announced in the next several days.

is the conference going to be kind a serial one to many with a collection of experts telling people what to do and what to think? can you define the community interaction you want to have facilitated?

Hi Kevin,
The goal of the conference, and the whole organization, are creating community and fostering dialogue. One way presentations don’t do that. Our aim is to design a conference that allows the sharing of ideas, research, and best practices in all directions. Certainly, facilitators will express ideas, and hopefully, if designed well, others will present opposing viewpoints. In all cases, we want this to be as hands on as possible. So when we’re talking about info graphics, the attendees are practicing designing them. When we’re talking about graphic recording, the attendees are learning how to do it. In addition, some portions of the event will be structured and others will be unstructured and open-ended. In a few weeks, we’ll do a post about the content design in more detail.
Thanks for the questions! We look forward to seeing you at the event.
